I have been really impressed with JLCPCB's free EasyEDA editor and its integration with the voluminous number of competitively priced parts, footprints, and 3D models associated with their very reasonably priced pick and place service. It feels like a well-oiled hangout spot for hobbyists where it's easy to publish designs open source and collaborate, discover what parts people are buying by sorting by quantities at https://jlcpcb.com/parts/all-electronic-components, and now it has a seemingly reasonably priced 3D printing service too (includes MJF and SLS)! It's very low friction for my small-sized projects. I can go into more detail if you'd like.

The costs feel subsidized compared to American prices for these things, but I don't know how I would find out the truth :) I'd like to visit in the fall, I'll see if they'll let me!

You mentioned decoupling capacitors in passing. I've designed exactly one board and it's low speed so I didn't use them, but I wonder if I should have?

If you missed it: I added an article on decoupling caps: https://lcamtuf.substack.com/p/the-basics-of-decoupling-capacitors
